Could the Green Bay Packers actually part ways with running back Aaron Jones this offseason?

ESPN’s Dan Graziano thinks so.

Graziano wrote that the Packers would save $11.45 million if they cut Jones after June 1, meaning that he could very well be a cap casualty.

Jones has another year left on his deal after this season and had to re-work his contract this past offseason to avoid being released.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at UTEP, was selected by Green Bay in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft and has become a fixture in the Packers’ backfield.

He rushed for 448 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie campaign and followed that up by totaling 728 yards and eight scores in 2018. Jones averaged a robust 5.5 yards per carry both seasons.

Jones then broke out by racking up 1,084 yards and a league-leading 16 rushing touchdowns in 2019, hauling in 49 receptions for 474 yards and three scores to boot.

The Savannah, Ga. native proceeded to make his first Pro Bowl in 2020 after finishing with 1,104 yards and nine touchdowns while registering 5.5 yards per tote yet again.

Jones then totaled a career-high 1,121 rushing yards last season.

The 2023 campaign has been a rather rough one for Jones, as he injured his hamstring back in Week 1 and has yet to really recover.

He has missed three games as a result of the injury, and when he has been on the field, he hasn’t seen much action as he is still not 100 percent.

Aaron Jones did receive a season-high 20 carries in this past Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Rams, so perhaps he is getting healthier as the year progresses.

The Packers snapped a four-game losing streak with their victory over the Rams to improve to 3-5. They will head on the road to battle the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend.
