Green Bay Packers: 5 Reasons the Packers Can Win Super Bowl LIII

Packers Wire – USA Today

A young secondary loaded with talent

The Green Bay Packers secondary is revamped from the unit that finished 20th in takeaways and 23rd in passing yards allowed last season. Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst traded back in the first round and gathered a 2019 first round pick in the process only to trade up and take talented corner Jaire Alexander out of Louisville. He then doubled down by taking ball-hawking off-man corner Josh Jackson out of Iowa with his second-round pick.

Although Alexander is a fantastic pick, the real story is getting a projected first-rounder in the middle of the second round. Jackson dropped due to concerns about scheme fit and less than desirable measurables at the combine. Regardless, the guy can flat-out play and will be a fantastic outside corner.

In addition to Alexander and Jackson, the Pack brought in the Tramon Williams. Williams joins a unit that includes last year’s first draft pick, Kevin King. Despite an up and down rookie season, King is expected to rebound under a better defensive scheme led by new coordinator Mike Pettine.

If these young guys develop as they are expected to, the Packers will have a top five secondary as early as next season. Combine this with a strong defensive line and the Packers defense will be giving offensive coordinators headaches next year.
