Packers Should Go All-Out To Trade For One Star Defender

The Green Bay Packers are in desperate need of some help in their secondary, and Brian Sampson of FanSided thinks he has the answer: Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker.

Baker made his return from the injured reserve list this past Sunday in the Cardinals’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks, logging six tackles in the 20-10 defeat.

When healthy, Baker is one of the NFL’s best defensive backs, but because Arizona is just 1-6 on the season and appears headed for a rebuild, the 27-year-old has been the subject of trade speculation.

Baker, who played his collegiate football at the University of Washington, was originally selected by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

It didn’t take him long to establish himself as one of the league’s top safeties, as he made the Pro Bowl and earned a First-Team All-Pro selection in his rookie campaign after finishing with 74 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and seven passes defended.

Overall, Baker has made five trips to the Pro Bowl (including four straight) and has notched First-Team All-Pro honors twice.

The Packers have been dealing with a lot of injuries to their defense this season, particularly in their defensive backfield.

While Green Bay’s defense has certainly not been bad, it is clearly missing some pieces, and Budda Baker would instantly improve the entire unit as a whole.

The Packers are 2-4 and have lost three straight games, most recently falling to the Denver Broncos by a score of 19-17 this past weekend.

Green Bay will look to right the ship on Sunday when it hosts the suddenly surging Minnesota Vikings in a pivotal NFC North matchup.
