Stud: CB Jaire Alexander
Alexander has yet to play significant time during the preseason due to a hankering groin injury. But, he was finally able to show us why he was a first-round pick this past April. After intercepting Raiders quarterback Connor Cook on a seam route where he undercut the throw, it was easy to see why the Packers were willing to spend their 18th overall pick on the former Louisville Cardinal.
There were flashes of his ability when the team played Pittsburgh. Known as one of the better up and coming route runners in the league, JuJu Smith-Schuster was all set to give the Packers defense problems. However, in limited snaps, Alexander was able to stick to his hip and deny Smith-Schuster even an opportunity to do so.
Alexander is slotted to start the season as the team’s nickel corner. In a league where the slot is becoming more relevant by the day, having a premium defender of the position is key. Alexander can be just that and also has the ability to play outside. Alexander is showing the ability to be a game-changer and that is exactly what this Packers defense has needed.
