Marquez Valdes-Scantling Emerges
Following the departure of Jordy Nelson this offseason, the Packers now only have two veteran receivers they know will produce. The rest of the receiving core is young players vying for playing time.
To try to fill the void, Green Bay drafted three wide receivers in the late rounds of the 2018 draft. J’Mon Moore was drafted in the fourth round, Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the fifth round, and Equanimeous St. Brown in the sixth round.

Clearly with all three players being the same position, they’re in competition with one another for depth chart positioning. After the first preseason game, Valdes-Scantling has emerged as the “top dog” over the other two rookie wide receivers.

In his limited time on the field, Valdes-Scantling produced with five receptions for 101 yards and a very difficult touchdown catch. Valdes-Scantling finished as the game’s leader in yards and receptions. Over hundred yards and a score is very impressive in an NFL preseason debut.
