Oren Burks Impressive Debut

One of the rare Packers players to play the majority of the game was Oren Burks. Coach McCarthy most likely gave Burks extended playing time because he is a rookie who is now being forced into a starting role.

With Jake Ryan being out for the season due to a torn ACL, Burks is now forced to be the second linebacker on the field in defensive coordinator Mike Pettine base 3-4 defense. Burks’ quickness at linebacker is a good complement to Blake Martinez would lead the league in tackles last year.

In his first real game action in the NFL, Burks did well. Burks led the Packers in both solo tackles and total tackles. As a third-round pick, Burks was expected to be the sub linebacker for Green Bay. But now as a starter, Burks must elevate his play. This first preseason game was just a sign that he may be able to replace Ryan’s production.
