Green Bay Packers to workout multiple receivers ahead of Week 1

The Green Bay Packers may look to add another wide receiver ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers are set to host a couple of wide receivers for workouts.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers will soon host Rogers for a workout. Rogers is coming off a 2019 season with 11 appearances for the Indianapolis Colts, ending with 16 catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

There wasn’t much need for the Colts to keep Rogers considering they added Michael Pittman Jr in the 2020 NFL Draft. Earlier in the offseason, Rogers signed with the Miami Dolphins but was cut shortly after joining the team.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also reported that Green Bay will soon have Devin Smith in for a workout, too. He made five appearances for the Dallas Cowboys in 2019 after previously missing two years due to multiple torn ACLs. He ended last season with five catches, 113 yards, and one touchdown.

The Cowboys decided to move on from Smith earlier this week. There may not be a team more loaded with talent at the wide receiver position, so it was more than an uphill battle to make the final cut.

For the Packers, being able to find a helpful contributor at the receiver position this close to Week 1 will be a challenge. It would be a pleasant surprise if either player manages to provide anything more than depth behind the main options already on the roster.

However, don’t rule out the chance for a journeyman to be able to step in for the Packers and experience success catching passes from Aaron Rodgers when their number is called.
