Here’s How Chiefs Could Trade For Cardinals’ Hollywood Brown

The Kansas City Chiefs may be 6-1 right now, but there is a sense that they’re vulnerable as they head into the heart of their regular season schedule. While quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been his usual self, as has star tight end Travis Kelce, the team clearly needs another bona fide threat at wide receiver.

Kansas City is second in passing yards and sixth in passing touchdowns, but those two stats are misleading. Other than Kelce, it does not have another player who has reached more than 305 receiving yards, and with games against the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills coming up, many have suggested that it may look to be active on the trade market.

One wide receiver that could be available is Marquise “Hollywood” Brown of the Arizona Cardinals. Brown is on a team that is going nowhere and may be best served tanking for University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams, and thus he could be available via trade.

Clark Dalton of Yard Barker suggested the Chiefs make a play for Brown.

“Brown will help the position group improve,” wrote Dalton. “Although Cardinals backup QB Joshua Dobbs is filling in for Kyler Murray (ACL), the 26-year-old has logged 29 receptions for 334 yards and three TDs in six games. His numbers should improve with Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes, a two-time league MVP.”

Brown hasn’t made a Pro Bowl in four previous pro seasons, but at age 26, much of his best football could still be ahead of him. He put up 1,008 yards and six touchdowns in 2021 as a member of the Baltimore Ravens while catching passes from Lamar Jackson.

The Chiefs shocked the NFL by trading star wideout Tyreek Hill during the 2022 offseason. Somehow, they managed to win the Super Bowl last season with JuJu Smith-Schuster contributing 933 receiving yards, but Smith-Schuster left last offseason to join the New England Patriots.

No, it’s never wise to bet against Mahomes, but perhaps it also isn’t wise to bet on him or his team right now, given his team’s lack of a reliable and consistently productive wide receiver. Hollywood Brown could fill that void very well if the price is right.
