Here’s How The Raiders Could Pull Off Big Trade For Justin Fields

Justin Fields, Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders could be in the market for a quarterback this coming offseason, and Justin Fields may be the answer they are looking for.

Of course, Fields is under contract with the Chicago Bears, so if the Raiders want to acquire him, they are going to have to trade for him.

Well, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports thinks he has the solution for both sides.

Trapasso suggests that the Raiders offer a third-round draft pick and a conditional third-rounder that becomes a second-round pick if Fields plays in 75 percent of Las Vegas’ offensive snaps in 2024.

That seems like a rather fair price to pay for Fields, who, while inconsistent, has shown occasional flashes of brilliance.

Through 11 starts this season, Fields has thrown for 2,146 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 60.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 84.5. He has also rushed for 585 yards and three scores, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.

Fields missed four games during the middle of the season due to a thumb injury, which occurred just as he was beginning to display signs of breaking out.

Between Weeks 4 and 5, Fields totaled eight touchdowns and just one pick through the air, but in Week 6, he dislocated his thumb, which knocked him out for the remainder of that game and the next four.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by the Bears with the 11th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He struggled mightily during his rookie campaign, registering seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions across 10 starts. Then, last year, Fields showed some progression, finishing with 17 touchdowns and 11 picks. He also racked up 1,143 yards and eight scores on the ground.

However, Fields’ lack of consistency has led many to believe that he is not Chicago’s quarterback of the future, and with the Bears owning the No. 1 pick in this coming draft courtesy of last year’s trade with the Carolina Panthers, they will probably be taking a signal-caller.

That means Justin Fields could be available for the quarterback-needy Raiders, who have shuffled between Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell and even Brian Hoyer this season.
