Here’s How The New York Jets Could Trade For WR Davante Adams

For the first time in a long time, the New York Jets look like they are on the right path to returning to relevancy. They were 4-13 in 2021, which isn’t great, but given where they are in their rebuild, there are more important things than their win-loss record.

New York struggled to find consistency, which was ultimately their undoing. But, they were competitive in a majority of their games, as they had five losses that were by one score. They picked up impressive victories over the Tennessee Titans, who finished as the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and Cincinnati Bengals, who are playing against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

This team showed a lot of heart and was making strides at the end of the season. Ownership has to be happy about the direction they are heading in, as an infusion of talent and some development from their younger players should start leading to more victories as soon as the 2022 season.

The Jets are in a great spot to upgrade the roster this offseason. They have a ton of cap space and valuable draft capital. Joe Douglas has the means to upgrade weaknesses on the roster, one of which is upgrading the weapons around Zach Wilson.

Wilson’s rookie season wasn’t great, as he got off to an especially rough start. The speed of the game looked to be too fast for him, as the Jets handed him the keys to the franchise from Day 1. That seemed like it would be a detriment, but he looked better the second half of the season.

Now, it is time to get him some help. Corey Davis played in only nine games and has consistently proven he is not a true No. 1 option. Elijah Moore had an excellent rookie season, but it is time to get Wilson a star. Could Davante Adams be the answer for the Jets?

Adams is an elite wide receiver. He is an All-Pro and one of the best in the business. Could the Jets convince him to come to the Meadowlands and become Wilson’s No. 1 target after he has spent his entire career catching passes from Aaron Rodgers?

That would honestly be the toughest sell. A hypothetical trade put together by Sportsnaut would be the least of the Jets’ worries. In the deal, the Jets would get Adams, the 28th overall pick and the 60th overall selection in exchange for the No. 10 and No. 35 overall picks.

For a team that could be heading toward a retooling, especially if Rodgers and Adams move on, moving up in the draft is nice. They would be able to add some high-end talent to retool the roster and remain competitive.

As for the Jets, this would be a major win. They are moving down in the first and second round, but holding onto the No. 4 overall pick. In addition to that, they are getting Adams, who is worth multiple picks on their own, let alone just moving down the board.

Some may say it is a little early in the rebuild to make a splash move like this, as the Jets would be better off upgrading the roster through the draft. But, if they want to get the most out of Wilson, they need to put him in the best position to succeed and bringing on a wide receiver of Adams’ caliber would accomplish that.
