Houston Texans: What to Expect From Deshaun Watson’s Texans in 2018?

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Expect the Houston Texans to Win The AFC South

Even if one of the Texans’ star defenders in their front seven goes down, I still like their chances to win the division. I think they have the edge because of their strength of schedule. The only games I see giving the Texans problems in 2018 besides divisional matchups are Week 1 against the New England Patriots and Week 16 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Besides the two Super Bowl participants in 2018, I think the Texans can play above .500 football.

Their schedule includes six divisional games, a game against each team in the AFC and NFC East, the Cleveland Browns, and the Denver Broncos. With the talent the Texans have, they should easily be able to beat the Jets, Dolphins, Redskins, and Broncos. Let’s say they go 3-3 in their division – this would bring them to a 7-3 record. The remaining six games are against the Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, Patriots, Bills, and the Browns. I think they can beat four of those six teams, but to play it safe, let’s say they go 3-3. So boom, a 10-6 record doesn’t seem so out of the ordinary for this Texans team, doesn’t it?

The Texans success relies on the health of Deshaun Watson

But again, the success of this team will rely on the health of Deshaun Watson. With Watson, the sky is the limit for the Texans. If they get hot at the right time, maybe they can make a deep playoff run, but I don’t expect them to make it to the Conference Championship game. One thing is for sure, and that’s the AFC South is up for grabs. There are no favorites in this division. A critical injury could be a death sentence for any of the four teams in the division. But after evaluating the talent on all of the rosters, I prefer the Texans over the Jaguars, Colts, and Titans.
