Over the past few years, the Chicago Bears have struggled to find consistency at the tight end position. That made finding a player at the position this offseason a priority. Chicago was rumored to be interested in both Greg Olsen and Austin Hooper, but saw both players sign elsewhere.
Following those two players signing with other teams, the Bears shifted their attention to former Green Bay Packers tight end Jimmy Graham. The two sides were able to strike a two-year deal worth $16 million.
Granted, Graham is nothing close to what Hooper would have been in Matt Nagy’s offense. However, he provides an interesting wrinkle for either Mitchell Trubisky or Nick Foles. Chicago needed a big body who can be a security blanket for either quarterback.
Last season with the Packers, Graham ended up catching 38 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns. His role in the offense was not what he wanted and he was open about that after signing with the Bears. Graham still firmly believes that he can be a dominant tight end if utilized properly.
Let’s dive in and take a look at what kind of impact Graham could make for the Bears’ offense.
