How the Chiefs’ Offense Can Be More Explosive in 2020
While it certainly will help to have Patrick Mahomes healthy to start the 2020 season, there is further reason to believe the Chiefs could experience increases in its offensive results. This is where both Andy Reid comes into play along with the further development of the franchise-quarterback.
Brian Baldinger of NFL Network shared his insight into how he believes the Chiefs’ offense can make a few necessary adjustments to maximize its potential. This involves adjustments in approach along with new elements added by newcomers like Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
There is significant attention the Chiefs’ more dynamic receiving threats like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce command from the defense, particularly from the safeties. There is a need for supporting cast receivers to make plays in those situations.
A variety of different factors could impact the Chiefs offensively in a positive way. For starters, the selection of Edwards-Helaire in the 2020 NFL Draft will provide needed dimensions to Kansas City’s backfield. He can make a real impact on carries both inside and outside the tackles as well as a receiver out of the backfield.
It’s important for complementary wide receivers manage to further their development, starting with Mecole Hardman. He is often put into motion in pre-snap situations and could become an even greater staple of the Chiefs’ offense entering his second season in the NFL.
When it’s all said and done, the fact that Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t put up as ridiculous of numbers as they did in 2018 isn’t what’s important. They made plays when it mattered most and that came during the playoffs, resulting in a Super Bowl victory.
