How the Jamal Adams trade changes 2020 outlook in the NFC West

Even with the Seattle Seahawks adding Jamal Adams into the mix, the San Francisco 49ers deserve to stay atop the NFC West standings projections until proven otherwise. The gap between the two teams came down to a Week 17 matchup and it got even smaller.

While many seem to view the fact that Adams’ best attribute is his ability to make an impact in the run game as a negative, that will help the Seahawks when matching up with the 49ers. Additionally, being able to match up better with George Kittle on passing downs certainly helps.

Something to consider, the 49ers rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns in their 26-21 win over the Seahawks last season. Aside from that, only Deebo Samuel (five catches, 102 yards) and Kittle (seven catches, 86 yards) consistently made their presence felt in the passing game.

There is still a possibility the Seahawks could look to add more talent to their roster ahead of the start of the 2020 season. If that were to occur, Seattle would match up even better with the 49ers, whether it’s Jadeveon Clowney or Everson Griffen, or even either Antonio Brown or Josh Gordon.

Both the 49ers and Seahawks are well within their window of competing at a high-level with potential long-term. It just remains to be seen how long that will last after the NFL salary cap experiences a decline due to lost revenue playing without fans in attendance.
