Seattle Seahawks
While the San Francisco 49ers won the NFC West in 2019, it wasn’t by a wide margin. There was a chance for the Seattle Seahawks to come away with the division title had they managed to win the Week 17 matchup between the two teams.
By adding a dynamic safety into the mix like Jamal Adams, the Seahawks are much better positioned to win the division this season. It helps a team that gave up 381.6 opponent yards from scrimmage per game (7th most) and 24.5 opponents points per game (11th most).
While the price tag can certainly be considered steep, to say the least, Adams provides a unique combination of skills as a needed difference-maker. There will be an added boost to the Seahawks’ run defense, as well as their ability to matchup with tight ends.
The unique combination of skills Adams brings to the table should not be understated. He is joined by J.J. Watt as the only players in NFL history with 200+ tackles, 10+ sacks, and 25+ pass breakups through three seasons (h/t Field Yates). All of that will be maximized in his role with the Seahawks’ defense.
There is still plenty that needs to be sorted out in regards to the Seahawks’ defense. However, adding a true franchise-building block will help the other players in the unit to handle their assignments a bit easier.
There is always a chance for a team with Russell Wilson leading the way at quarterback to have a strong season. Now with another franchise building block playing a key role, the Seahawks are better positioned to knock off the 49ers in the NFC West.
