Indianapolis Colts: 3 Key Matchups to Watch vs. Redskins in Week 2

Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

Colts’ Running Game vs. the Washington Defense

One of the most important things for the Colts this week will be to get their running game going. Marlon Mack was forced to miss Week 1, but is hopeful that he will get to play against the Redskins this week.

Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines were the top backs last week. Both players showed flashes of potential, but neither back is ready to be a workhorse.

Even though Luck may be back on the field and healthy, he still will need some support from the ground game. They cannot afford to ask him to power the offense without any pressure taken off of his shoulders, no pun intended.

Indianapolis has the talent to be a solid running team, but 75 yards split between two backs isn’t going to get the job done. Against a Redskins’ defense that ranked last in the league against the run last year, the Colts need to have a much bigger game.
