Protect the Football
If the Colts are going to have a chance at winning any game this year, they need to protect the football. You can call this a cliche if you want, however, for a team that can afford minimal mistakes protecting the football must be paramount.
Subtract the fumble from Sunday’s meeting at Lucas Oil and we are most likely talking about the 1-1 Bengals as opposed to the winless Colts. The Colts are going to find themselves in a number of close games this year and every little mistake will count. Indianapolis is going to have to play safe football and keep the turnovers down to a minimum if they hope to be competitive this season.
The Colts do not have the firepower on offense to compensate for a large amount of turnovers and their defense isn’t exactly a brick wall. When you get down to brass tacks, this team cannot afford a lot of mistakes, period. Football is a fast game and you can’t play it cautiously. However, the Colts need to do everything possible to protect the football if they want to beat a very talented Washington team on Sunday.
