The Indianapolis Colts welcomed safety Kareem Jackson for a visit during free agency on Wednesday, as reported by Howard Balzer.

Despite ongoing discussions with Julian Blackmon, the Colts are also actively monitoring the broader market for potential additions.

Jackson, who has enjoyed a career spanning the Houston Texans and the Denver Broncos, has been a mainstay in the league since being selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Texans, initially as a cornerback.

After a nine-season tenure with the Texans, Jackson transitioned to the Denver Broncos in 2019, where he successfully made the switch to safety. Following five seasons with the Broncos, he was waived and subsequently claimed by the Texans late in the 2023 season.

Jackson’s time in the spotlight during the 2023 season was somewhat marred by two suspensions for illegal hits on defenseless receivers.

With a pressing need to bolster the strong safety position, the Colts are actively exploring their options. While Blackmon remains a preferred choice given the available alternatives, the outcome of Jackson’s visit on Wednesday adds an intriguing element to their decision-making process.

Chris Ballard and the front office still have a lot of work to do if the Indianapolis Colts want to be a legitimate contender. They’ve got quite a few great pieces, but they’re not quite there.
