1. The Defense Has Been Exposed
What had been the Jaguars greatest strength is now turning into it’s greatest weakness. The once vaunted defense of the Jacksonville Jaguars is disintegrating. Offenses aren’t afraid of them. It’s been pretty evident over the last four weeks. The loss to the Indianapolis Colts was an epitome of how far the Jaguars defense has fallen. There were multiple lapses in coverage that we didn’t see much of last season nor in the first few weeks of this season.
What has happened to the Jacksonville defense? Simple. They’ve been exposed. Football teams that win with their defense as the focal point is a thing of the past now. It’s not a sustainable formula for winning football. It was successful last year because it was the first time the Jaguars had all the collective talent to be a top three defense. Flip the page to this season, and you’ll see that offenses have figured out how to attack them.
It’s not solely what other teams are doing to the Jacksonville Jaguars defense. They don’t look to have that same swagger. That same aggressiveness that we had seen from them. The Jaguars defense is not a bully anymore; instead, it’s opposing offenses that bully them. This defense has been responsible for the majority of losses suffered already this season, which is insane considering they have Blake Bortles at quarterback.
The Jaguars defense has allowed an average of 28.6 points per game through the course of their five-game losing streak. The absence of running back Leonard Fournette has been felt since the offense can’t sustain drives as often. Regardless, this defense has been exposed. It’s tough to see them building any momentum as the season progresses.
