Jacksonville Jaguars: 3 Takeaways from Jalen Ramsey’s GQ Interview

He Has Strong Thoughts on NFL Quarterbacks

So, according to Ramsey, the upper-echelon of NFL quarterbacks includes Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. No arguments there.

Other quarterbacks Ramsey spoke highly of were Deshaun Watson and Carson Wentz:

“Deshaun Watson, he’ll be the league MVP in a couple years. One hundred percent. There’s not even a debate about that. Him and Carson Wentz, for every year starting now until five to ten years, it’s gonna be them two. They’re that good.”

Again, can’t really argue there. Watson was on his way to being the NFL’s top rookie last year before going down with a season-ending injury. And Wentz was one of the frontrunners for MVP before suffering a season-ending injury of his own.

Ramsey discussed some other quarterbacks as well, basically stating that guys like Dak Prescott, Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Andrew Luck benefit from the players around them. He pointed out that Prescott has Ezekiel Elliott as his running back and Manning, Roethlisberger, and Luck have Odell Beckham Jr., Antonio Brown, and T.Y. Hilton to throw the ball to.

Those are good points in terms of who they have around them, but Manning and Roethlisberger have each won two Super Bowls, Luck is a three-time Pro Bowler and Prescott was the 2016 NFL Rookie of the Year. None of the bunch is exactly a scrub.

Oh, but it gets better. Ramsey also called Matt Ryan “overrated” and said that Josh Allen and Joe Flacco are “trash.”

In the case of Allen, he’s just a rookie who is still in the midst of his first NFL preseason. The jury’s still out on him.

As for Ryan and Flacco, neither is an elite quarterback. However, Ryan has an MVP to his credit and a Super Bowl appearance, while Flacco won a Super Bowl and has played in every game in all but one of his 10 NFL seasons. That sounds pretty dependable to me.

I do agree with what Ramsey said about Flacco’s teammate and fellow quarterback Lamar Jackson, though. He had the following to say about the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner out of Louisville:

“I would’ve picked (Lamar Jackson) earlier than 32. I think he’s gonna do a good job. Especially with the (Baltimore Ravens’) offensive coordinator — he likes running quarterbacks, likes that read option.”

Like Ramsey, I think Jackson was worthy of a higher draft pick, especially because it seems that the NFL is becoming increasingly tailored toward running quarterbacks. Or, to state it more accurately, teams are starting to tailor their offense toward running quarterbacks.

Believe it or not, Ramsey had much more to say about some of the league’s most popular quarterbacks. But I’ll let you read that for yourself.
