The Cleveland Browns are going to have some huge decisions to make this coming offseason. Obviously, their biggest decision will become what to do with Baker Mayfield and whether or not to bring him back for another year as the starting quarterback. At the very least, the Browns need to bring in some competition for him, and Jameis Winston could be the perfect fit to do just that.

Winston may end up re-signing with the Saints. No one knows what his market is going to end up being. But, in the short time that he started for New Orleans this season, Winston looked very good.

Bringing Winston to Cleveland would be a bold move by the Browns. They would need to make that move with the clear understanding to both Winston and Mayfield that the starting job is completely up for grabs. Both players could work hard and do their best to win the job and the best man must win.

In the seven games that Winston played with the Saints this season, he completed 59 percent of his pass attempts for 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. He also picked up 166 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Those numbers show why he could be a great fit for the Browns.

There is a strong chance that another team could come in and offer Winston their starting job. If that happens, obviously the Browns would have no shot at bringing him in. On the other hand, if Winston receives backup offers, having a chance to head to Cleveland to compete for playing time would be an appealing offer.

At 28 years of age, Winston is going to take the offer that gives him the best chance to play. With the way that Mayfield struggled in 2021 with the Browns, Cleveland could offer him a fairly good chance at that.

Mayfield has received so much criticism over the last couple of years and a good portion of the fans and media have turned against him. He has stated time and time again how much he loves the city of Cleveland, but that may not be enough. The 2022 season could be his last chance, or he might have already had that last chance.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what kind of moves the Browns make this offseason. Jameis Winston may not end up being an option or a consideration, but the move is an intriguing one that would put pressure on Mayfield and bring in a much better fallback option for the Browns than they had in 2021.
