The Dallas Cowboys are going to be a team to watch this offseason in free agency. While they may not spend big and their biggest offseason move will be the re-signing of Dak Prescott, there are still a few areas that Dallas could look to improve. One of those is the tight end position, with Jared Cook being a potential free agency target.

Cook has had a solid tenure with the New Orleans Saints as one of Drew Brees’ weapons. However, all good things come to an end and he will be looking to play the next chapter of his career elsewhere.

Last season with the Saints, Cook ended up catching 37 passes for 504 yards and seven touchdowns. Back in 2019, he racked up 43 receptions for 705 yards and nine touchdowns. Those numbers show that he can still offer a lot to an offense like the Cowboys.

One former NFL executive spoke to NFL Analysis Network about Cook and where he could end up this offseason.

“I know there are a lot of teams that are interested in Cook, but one that I think makes the most sense is Dallas. They want a veteran tight end who can make plays down the middle of the field for Dak. Cook could absolutely be that guy and I expect there to be interest.”

At 33 years old, Cook isn’t getting any younger and he is no longer in his prime. But, at 6-foot-5 and just under 250 pounds, he is still relatively fast for his size and he can still create mismatches. That is why the Cowboys should consider signing him.

Of course, they need to be careful not to overpay for him. Dallas has already put together a ton of weapons for Prescott in Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb. A tight end offers a different kind of weapon and Jared Cook could be a great role player for the Cowboys.

It will be interesting to see what the market for Cook ends up being this offseason. Quite a few teams could use a consistent veteran tight end.

Expect to see the Cowboys look into options at the tight end position and it would not be shocking to see them try to sign Jared Cook.
