Offense has been hard to come by for the New York Jets throughout the 2023 season. Their entire game plan went out the window when Aaron Rodgers was injured on the team’s fourth offensive snap of the season and they never fully recovered.
In a season full of lowlights for the offense, Week 15 was yet another one for the Jets. Zach Wilson, coming off his best game as a pro in Week 14, didn’t even make it to halftime against the Miami Dolphins. It was reported that he was suffering from dehydration, but it was later called a head injury.
Whatever happened, Wilson was not on the field for the final drive of the first half and beyond, as he was relieved by Trevor Siemian. Before exiting, Wilson had a brutal game, completing 4-of-11 passes for 26 yards with one fumble lost.

Siemian wasn’t much better, as he went 14-of-26 for 110 yards with two interceptions and a lost fumble. That resulted in an ugly 30-0 loss as New York managed only 103 total yards of offense against a Dolphins defense that was looking to get back on track after an embarrassing meltdown in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans.
The Jets’ defense was put in tough spots all afternoon because of the offense’s ineptitude. Even without star wide receiver Tyreek Hill in the lineup, Miami still made some big plays led by wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and running back Raheem Moster.
Waddle did his best Hill impression, catching eight passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. The Jets’ leading receivers were Garrett Wilson and Xavier Gipson, who tied for 29 yards apiece. After the game, Wilson got brutally honest when assessing the team’s offense following him being asked how Miami can scheme their receivers open and New York can’t do the same for him.
“I think they have a lot of pieces in their favor that make it easier to scheme. Tyreek goes down, they put Waddle in there and he goes for 150. And that’s, that’s the ball I grew up loving. But that’s not how it’s going to be. I gotta figure out how to be better, run better routes, be better in the meeting rooms, figure out how I can be involved early,” Wilson said via Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic on X.

That is a professional answer from Wilson, who took accountability for his performance on the field. No one is blaming Wilson for how things have gone, but he still showed a lot of leadership taking the onus upon himself.
That is something some people within the organization can take notes from. Wilson could have ripped into some of his coaches and teammates for not getting the ball enough but he took the high road, showcasing why he is a building block for the team heading into the future.
