The New York Jets have resembled something closer to a circus than an NFL franchise in the last few days. Not only did the team put forth another embarrassing performance offensively in Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons, losing 13-8, but they were involved in headlines no team wants to be a part of.
Tim Boyle, who started the last two games in place of Zach Wilson, who was benched in Week 11 against the Buffalo Bills, played poorly enough that head coach Robert Saleh turned to backup Trevor Siemian. Siemian didn’t perform much better, which led to reports that Saleh was considering another quarterback change.
To the surprise of many, the change the team wanted to make was going back to Wilson. A story broke that becoming the starter again was something Wilson was hesitant to do, citing injury concerns as the main reason.
Aaron Rodgers, who continues rehabbing from his Achilles injury suffered in Week 1, made some critical comments about the reporting being done on the situation. The Jets offered very little about it, focusing on the future and not things that may been said in the past.
NFL News & Rumors: Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Robert Saleh, Tim Boyle, Trevor Siemian, New York Jets Updates
Whatever may have occurred over the last few days, it has resulted in the Jets circling back to Wilson as their starter. He was officially named the starting quarterback for their Week 14 matchup against the Houston Texans.
Adam Schefter of ESPN shared the update on X, formerly known as Twitter. In addition to the news about Wilson taking over as the starter again, Saleh shared that Wilson is fired up for the opportunity.
Just two weeks ago, it looked as if Wilson’s tenure with the Jets was over. He was not only benched but relegated to the emergency third-string role behind Boyle and Siemian. Somehow, the team’s offense actually got worse without Wilson in the lineup, which says a lot as they were already trending toward a historically poor season on that side of the ball.
It will be interesting to see how Wilson responds to becoming the starter once again. He has been benched numerous times in the last two seasons and changes will be made this offseason. This will be as good of a chance as Wilson gets to audition for work elsewhere around the league in 2024.
