All of the attention in recent weeks for the New York Jets has been on their new quarterback. The acquisition of Aaron Rodgers has dominated headlines for weeks and will continue to be the thing talked about most. It is understandable as a quarterback upgrade is what owner Woody Johnson sought most this offseason and now he’s gotten it.

While all of the focus has been on that, general manager Joe Douglas and his team have been working hard tinkering with the rest of the roster. They are doing their best to put the franchise in the best position to succeed.

This week, they made another move hoping to get closer to achieving that goal. The Jets bolstered their cornerback depth chart, claiming Javelin Guidry off of waivers. Guidry was waived by the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday but wasn’t available very long as New York moved swiftly to bring him in.

Guidry spent last season with the Las Vegas Raiders but rarely got on the field. He logged only 18 defensive snaps, playing in four games. He was more prominent on their special teams, where he played 36 percent of the time, logging 39 snaps.

It is a move that makes a lot of sense for the Jets as Guidry is someone that they are already familiar with. As an undrafted free agent out of Utah in 2020, he was signed by Gang Green. He ended up playing a good amount for the Jets in 2020 and 2021, appearing in 26 games with five starts.

In those games, he recorded 70 total tackles with one tackle for loss and two quarterback hits. He also had three passes defended and four fumble recoveries as he was seemingly always around a loose ball.

Guidry is a bit undersized at 5’9” but he possesses blazing speed, which will always intrigue teams. His 4.29 40-yard dash was the fastest among all the cornerbacks in 2020 at the scouting combine, showcasing his excellent athleticism.
