Heading into the 2020 NFL season, the Cincinnati Bengals will be looking to see if AJ Green can return back to previous form with rookie Joe Burrow under center. The New York Jets would be wise to keep an eye on Green’s play this season.

Green did not reach an agreement on a long-term agreement with the Bengals this offseason and will play the upcoming season under the franchise tag. He will enter free agency in 2021, assuming there is no tag placed on him again next offseason.

From 2011-17, Green had one of the most impressive runs in the NFL at the receiver position. He totaled 556 receptions resulting in 8,213 yards, and 57 touchdowns in 102 appearances. Since then, he has participated in just nine games all occurring in 2018 and was sidelined for all of last season.

There is nothing in question in terms of Green’s ability to make an impact on the football field. Where there are questions is in his ability to stay healthy and be available to play consistently.

For Green, the 2020 season will be a prime opportunity for him to prove that the injury concerns are behind him. Overall, that would help to re-establish his value. If his impact resembles his previous levels of play, teams like the Jets should get in on pursuing him next offseason.

With that being said, let’s take a look at three reasons the Jets must pursue an AJ Green signing in 2021 NFL free agency.
