The Dallas Cowboys have had a busy offseason so far, placing the franchise tag on quarterback Dak Prescott and re-signing wide receiver Amari Cooper to a massive five-year, $100 million deal. Unfortunately, they also lost cornerback Byron Jones to the Miami Dolphins in free agency.
Now, there has been a major prediction made for the Cowboys. Joe Thomas, a former NFL star and current analyst on NFL Network, predicted that Dallas will end up signing star free agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney.
The prediction came on NFL Network’s “Free Agency Frenzy” show.
Clowney would make a ton of sense for the Cowboys, especially with the Chicago Bears swooping in and signing Robert Quinn. Dallas needs more help rushing the passer and Clowney would be a lethal addition to their defense.
Last season in a shortened season with the Seattle Seahawks, Clowney racked up 31 tackles, three sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception, a defensive touchdown, and three defended passes. Those numbers came in just 13 games.
At 27 years old, Clowney would be a huge addition now and long-term. Giving him a big four-year contract would make sense, assuming the Cowboys could afford it.
Other teams are going to have interest in Clowney, but the Cowboys can give him a chance to compete. Mike McCarthy could be getting another major addition as he tries to turn Dallas back into a Super Bowl contender.
Expect to hear more rumors and predictions about Clowney in the near future. NFL free agency is in full motion and some major dominoes have already fallen. Clowney to the Cowboys could be something to keep an eye on.
