John Harbaugh Reveals Thoughts On Ravens RB JK Dobbins

The Baltimore Ravens running back room turned into a triage unit in 2021. They lost the top three players on the depth chart at the position as Justice Hill, Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins to season-ending injuries before Week 1.

That led to the team relying on a mix of veterans who are past their primes to lead the running game. Devonta Freeman, Latavius Murray and Le’Veon Bell all received chances throughout the season following Ty’Son Williams.

Lamar Jackson was the team’s leading rusher, which comes as no surprise as he has two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt already. Last season he had 767 yards, a sizable drop-off from the previous two seasons.

A big reason for that could have been the mix of running backs around him. Teams were able to key in on him more knowing that the Ravens were digging deep on their depth chart for help. In 2022, he could get back on track, especially if Dobbins can return to form.

As a rookie, Dobbins averaged 6.0 yards per carry. He was expected to break out in a major way by many people as a sophomore before the torn ACL ended his season before it even began.

Activated from the physically unable to perform list last week, Dobbins is seemingly on track to be in the lineup in Week 1 just as he had predicted. Head coach John Harbaugh is happy with how Dobbins’ rehab is progressing to this point.

“He looked good,” Harbaugh said, via the team’s website. “He’s kind of back on track, and I thought he looked a little better than he did before — last week. So, he continues to improve, and we’ll see where it goes.”

While there is no plan in place right now to ramp up Dobbins to a full participant, things do seem to be on track for him to be in the lineup in Week 1 against the New York Jets. With just over three weeks and two preseason games remaining before that time, there are plenty of chances for Dobbins to ramp up his activity to prepare himself for the rigors of the regular season.
