The Indianapolis Colts made the bold move to draft Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Even after seeing Marlon Mack break out in 2019, the Colts were not willing to pass up on the talent that Taylor brings to the field.
During the 2019 season with the Badgers, Taylor put up massive numbers. He carried the football 320 times for 2,003 yards and 21 touchdowns on the season. Taylor also caught 26 passes for 252 yards and five touchdowns.
Taylor has officially arrived in Indianapolis and the Colts are excited to see him get to work. He also shared one of the reasons the team is a perfect fit for him.
Speaking of ball security, Taylor lost five fumbles in 2019 alone. Throughout his career at Wisconsin, he lost 15 fumbles and fumbled the ball a total of 18 times.
Looking ahead at this upcoming career with the Colts, the help of a ball security coach like Tom Rathman is a perfect fit. Taylor has the potential to be a star in the NFL. If the Colts choose not to pay Mack the kind of money he wants, Taylor could become a starter sooner rather than later.
Taylor has top-notch speed and has the physical ability to be an every-down running back. He isn’t the best receiver out of the backfield, but the raw talent is there for him to develop that skill-set.
Indianapolis should be very excited about their future in the backfield with Taylor on the roster. The Colts will have a lethal dual-threat backfield in Mack and Taylor this season and fans should get quite a few opportunities to see what the rookie can offer in 2020.
