The last few weeks have been tumultuous for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. He showed up to training camp but was quickly sidelined as the team placed him on the physically unable to play list because of his ankle injury.
While Jonathan Taylor did undergo a procedure on his ankle during the offseason, some people were skeptical about the timing of him being placed on the PUP list. He wasn’t one of the players mentioned during early pressers as not being available and it surprised some personnel when it was announced.
Could this have all been in response to the Colts saying they would not be giving him a long-term deal this offseason? The state of the running back market has been a major topic of discussion and Jonathan Taylor has been in the middle of it.
Owner Jim Irsay made some bizarre comments in regard to an extension, which didn’t help the cause. Things took a turn for the worse when the Colts reported that he had a back injury. It was something that Jonathan Taylor disputed, saying it was not the case.
Shortly after, Jonathan Taylor opted to leave training camp to rehab the ankle injury off-site. He was away for a little while but did return to the team on Monday. His return didn’t last long, as he left the team once again.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, this time Jonathan Taylor’s absence has been excused by the team. Why he has left has not been revealed other than Schefter saying it is a personal matter.
Hopefully, everything is okay with Jonathan Taylor and there isn’t anything seriously wrong. If the Colts want to have any chance of succeeding in the early going after announcing Anthony Richardson as the team’s starting quarterback, they need their star running back healthy and on the field.
