Jordan Reed Has Stood Out in 49ers Camp
The San Francisco 49ers have not experienced a lot of glowing storylines from training camp–Jordan Reed’s impact certainly has been one, though. This has occurred after sitting out for the first week of training camp.
The list of non-participants in the 49ers’ camp has become extensive in terms of pass catchers. Between Deebo Samuel still recovering from his foot injury along with George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk sitting out among others, Reed has been relied upon by Jimmy Garoppolo early and often.
According to Around The NFL Editor Gregg Rosenthal, Reed has not only been a standout for the 49ers in training camp, he’s emerged as ‘Jimmy Garoppolo’s favorite target.’
“I don’t need to go over Reed’s injury history and the risk he’s taking by playing after so many concussions. His real test will come in the regular season. Still, in a rough camp for the 49ers, Reed emerging late last week as Jimmy Garoppolo’s favorite target is intriguing. A healthy Reed alongside George Kittle would change the complexion of San Francisco’s offense.”
All of the reps Reed is getting with Garoppolo will help the duo to hit the ground running when the 49ers begin the season. The momentum they’ve established heading into Week 1 could go a long way in establishing the TE2 spot having real involvement in the passing game.
Being able to receive consistent impact from Reed would help add additional layers to the 49ers’ offense. San Francisco needs complementary pass catching threats to step up considering Samuel’s injury and Reed has shown to be capable of doing that.
The potential Jordan Reed has shown throughout his career has been impressive when healthy. It remains to be seen if he can continue to stay healthy, but he’s at least ready to roll for the San Francisco 49ers heading into the start of the season.
