Many people think San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is a game manager. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid does not seem to be one of those people.

While speaking to reporters at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting on Monday, Reid shared his thoughts on Purdy, and he seems to really like the young signal-caller.

“A lot of respect for Brock, and I don’t really care where he got picked,” Reid said, via David Lombardi of The Athletic. “That doesn’t matter to me. He’s just a good player. He sees the field, he’s got good accuracy, great timing with his receivers. He’s calm. You feel like he’s got everything under control.”

Reid also feels that the combination of Purdy and head coach Kyle Shanahan is truly something to be feared.

“I know (Shanahan) has got a great young quarterback, and him with a great young quarterback is deadly,” Reid said.

If anyone would know about Purdy, it’s Reid, considering that Reid’s Chiefs faced Purdy and the 49ers in the Super Bowl last month. Purdy put forth a soldi showing in San Francisco’s loss, going 23-for-38 with 255 yards and a touchdown.

Purdy, who played his collegiate football at Iowa State, was selected by the Niners with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He began his rookie campaign as the third-string quarterback, but due to season-ending injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, Purdy was pressed into starting duty.

Purdy ended up throwing for 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 67.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 107.3 in nine games and five starts in 2022. He went 5-0 in his five starts and took the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game, but he was injured very early in a loss.

This past season, Purdy finished fourth in MVP voting after totaling 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 picks while completing 69.4 percent of his throws and registering a league-high 113 passer rating.

We’ll see what Brock Purdy can do for an encore in 2024.

Who knows? Maybe he will see Andy Reid and the Chiefs in the Super Bowl once again.
