Kansas City Chiefs Make Wild History For 2024 NFL Season

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of back-to-back championships and are looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls.

That right there would be historic enough in itself.

But the Chiefs have already made some pretty wild history heading into 2024, and it happened before they even set foot on the gridiron.

Kansas City has become the first NFL team in nearly a century to have games scheduled on six different days of the week (h/t Grant Gordon of NFL.com), as the Chiefs will play on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday next season.

The last club to do it? The 1927 New York Yankees. Yes, the football Yankees (you may have just learned something new today).

Obviously, Sunday, Monday and Thursday games are typical. Saturday games are a bit more rare, but they are certainly a thing late in the year when the college football season is over.

But how are the Chiefs playing on Wednesday and Friday?

Well, Kansas City will face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day, which is a Wednesday. As for the Friday game? The Chiefs will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday, which falls on Nov. 29.

The first Black Friday game actually streamed on Amazon Prime last season, so this will not be the first time it has occurred. Nevertheless, it’s still weird to see a team playing on a Friday.

The same goes for Wednesday, although this has happened in the past on Christmas, as well.

It just seems appropriate that the Chiefs were the squad to make this history, right?

Kansas City is the NFL’s newest dynasty, as it has won three Super Bowls in the last five years and has participated in four overall during that span. The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in overtime for their most recent title back in February.

Heading into 2024, Kansas City has been labeled the favorite to win it all by many. And why not? It’s hard to bet against Patrick Mahomes at this point, and the Chiefs also have one of the league’s best defenses.

Kansas City also added some weapons for Mahomes this offseason, signing wide receiver Marquise Brown in free agency and selecting fellow wide out Xavier Worthy in the first round of the NFL Draft.

That being said, Chiefs No. 1 receiver Rashee Rice has gotten himself into some pretty serious legal trouble and is facing a potential lengthy suspension from the NFL, so we’ll have to see how that turns out.

One thing is for sure: we will be seeing Kansas City on national television an awful lot in 2024.
