Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Doesn’t Hold Back On Marquise Brown

The Kansas City Chiefs landed a big weapon for Patrick Mahomes this offseason, signing wide receiver Marquise Brown in free agency.

The Chiefs definitely had a weakness at the position last season even though they did win their second straight Super Bowl title, so they decided to address it.

Mahomes was pumped when Kansas City added Brown, and he is already liking what he is seeing from the speedy wide out in offseason workouts.

“I thought Hollywood did a great job coming in and being prepared and learning really fast,” Mahomes said, via Nate Taylor of The Athletic.

The Chiefs signed Brown to a one-year, $7 million deal, which seems like an absolute bargain based on what Brown is capable of.

Brown had a couple of middling seasons with the Arizona Cardinals in 2021 and 2022, but much of that can be attributed to poor quarterback play. Remember: Kyler Murray missed considerable time the last two years after tearing his ACL 11 games into the 2021 campaign.

Plus, Brown has a 1,000-yard season under his belt from his days with the Baltimore Ravens.

Marquise Brown Is Already Forming a Connection With Patrick Mahomes

What’s really scary for the NFL is that Brown has apparently already formed a connection with Mahomes, which could result in some big plays down the field in 2024.

“He’s trusting me more and more,” Brown said of Mahomes. “I’m just excited for the opportunity and what’s ahead. They’re letting me be a weapon. I’m not just stuck in this role or that role. Coach [Andy] Reid is putting me in positions to do a lot of things.”

The Chiefs also selected University of Texas standout Xavier Worthy in the first round of the NFL Draft, so they have made a couple of significant additions to their receiving corps.

On the negative side of things, Rashee Rice—Kansas City’s No. 1 receiver from last year—is facing some very serious legal issues and could end up serving a lengthy suspension.

If that ends up being the case, the Chiefs won’t necessarily be back at square one at wide receiver, but they will still be lacking. At least until Rice returns (if he does return).

But if Rice is available, Kansas City could go from being thin at the position last year to suddenly having one of the most dangerous groups of pass-catchers in football, especially with Patrick Mahomes throwing them the rock.

We’ll see if Marquise Brown can get back on track after a rough stretch in Arizona.
