Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made a rather surprising appearance on his team’s injury report on Wednesday.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Mahomes is dealing with a pectoral issue. The Chiefs did not specify if it was the right or the left pec.
The good news is that Mahomes was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, but apparently, he is not exactly 100 percent.
Mahomes is coming off of a rather rough outing in a loss to the Green Bay Packers this past weekend, going 21-for-33 with 210 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
The 28-year-old has not looked quite like himself this season, throwing for 3,127 yards, 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 67.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 95.1. While those numbers are certainly not bad, they are also not up to Mahomes’ typical standards.
Kansas City has been struggling of late, having gone just 2-3 over its last five games. In those three losses, the Chiefs failed to register 20 points in each of those games, and they even failed to crack 10 points in their loss to the Denver Broncos back on Oct. 29.
Mahomes and Kansas City’s offense has looked shaky all season long, which does not come as a huge surprise given that the wide receiver position was viewed as a weakness for the club going into 2023. Tight end Travis Kelce has represented Patrick Mahomes’ only consistently reliable target in the aerial attack, and the Chiefs did not do a whole lot to address the issue at the trade deadline outside of re-acquiring wide out Mecole Hardman in a deal with the New York Jets.
Kansas City is now 8-4 on the season and will battle the Buffalo Bills this Sunday. The defending champions will then face the New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers to close out the regular season.
