The Kansas City Chiefs have had a relatively quiet, but all-around solid offseason so far. While Andy Reid’s football team seems set up to compete for a Super Bowl once again this season, they could still be open to making a major move if one comes to them. That’s where a player like Washington Commanders pass-rusher Chase Young could come into play.
Young has been mentioned in trade rumors all offseason long. The Commanders made the decision to decline his fifth-year option, which has led to even heavier rumors of him potentially being traded.
CBS Sports recently connected the Chiefs to a potential trade for Young. At the very least, they are an intriguing trade suitor to consider.
Every single major Super Bowl contender has to have a good pass rush. As of right now, the Chiefs need some help. They aren’t going to be awful, but they certainly would love to add a jolt of energy to the edge.
Last season, Young played in just three games before going down with a torn ACL. He didn’t perform well in his limited action, racking up just three tackles and a defended pass.
However, looking back at his rookie year in 2020, it’s clear why a team like the Chiefs would have interest in taking a gamble on Young. He recorded 44 total tackles to go along with 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and four defended passes. Those numbers showed major promise that he has been unable to reach over the last two years.
With his time in Washington being difficult for the most part, a change of scenery could do him well. A trade to a Super Bowl contender like the Chiefs may be exactly what he needs.
All of that being said, there is no guarantee that the Commanders are actually interested in trading Chase Young. They could simply choose to ride it out for one more year and consider an extension if things go well.
Either way, a potential Young to the Chiefs trade would make a ton of sense and is certainly intriguing to think about.
