The Kansas City Chiefs may not look fantastic this season, but tight end Travis Kelce has sent a warning to anyone who thinks that the Chiefs are suddenly vulnerable.

Many have criticized Kansas City’s thin receiving corps over the first eight weeks of 2023, as the Chiefs clearly do not have a No. 1 talent at wide receiver. But Kelce thinks the position is just fine.

“This team has every piece that it needs to be great,” Kelce said Friday, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN. “Everybody can talk about whatever they want to talk about. … I know that we’ve got a team that can put points up, and I know we’ve got the coaches to be able to put us in the great positions to succeed, and that’s where we’re moving going forward, and it just takes guys to lock in and just be ready for those big-time moments when we need them most.”

In spite of the Chiefs being tied for the AFC’s best record at 6-2, things have not felt quite right with the team ever since Week 1.

Kansas City has only hit the 30-point mark twice this season, and it has actually been held under 20 points three times. Last week, the Chiefs were held to under 10 points in a 24-9 loss to the Denver Broncos.

After leading the NFL with 29.2 points per game last year, Kansas City is just 12th at 23.4 points per game thus far in 2023. The club also ranks 17th in red-zone efficiency after finishing No. 2 in that area last season.

All of these are certainly issues of concern for a Chiefs squad that lost No. 1 wide out JuJu Smith-Schuster to free agency back in the spring and never legitimately replaced him.

Kansas City also traded away superstar Tyreek Hill two offseasons ago, so the Chiefs are certainly playing with fire at the wide receiver position.

Regardless, Travis Kelce seems confident in his team’s ability to succeed.

Kansas City will take on the Miami Dolphins in Germany this Sunday.
