The Kansas City Chiefs picked up a big Week 15 win over the New England Patriots this past Sunday, and afterward, tight end Travis Kelce sang the praises of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Edwards-Helaire carried the ball 13 times for 37 yards, but his real impact came in the passing game, as he logged four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.

“He’s the unsung hero for today,” Kelce said of, via Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star. “That’s for damn sure.”

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also had some kind things to say about Edwards-Helaire.

“He’s been an energy giver, which you need,” Reid said, via KMBC 9. “Smile on the face and he comes to work every day trying to get better, he doesn’t ever complain.”

Edwards-Helaire has been quiet this season overall, rushing for 216 yards and a touchdown while averaging 3.7 yards per carry. He has also caught just 13 passes for 137 yards and a score.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was selected by the Chiefs with the 32nd overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, playing in 13 games and finishing with 803 yards and four touchdowns on the ground while recording 4.4 yards per attempt. Additionally, he hauled in 36 receptions for 297 yards and a score.

Injuries then limited Edwards-Helaire to 10 games the following season, and during that time, he totaled 517 yards and four touchdowns while registering 4.3 yards per tote. Once again, health issues ruined Edwards-Helaire’s campaign in 2022, as he played in just 10 contests for the second straight year and tallied 302 yards while reaching the end zone three times on the ground.

While Edwards-Helaire has been a disappointment in Kansas City, he showed against the Patriots that he can still be a significant part of the offense once in a while.

The Chiefs are 9-5 this season and will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day. They will then battle the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers to close out the regular season.
