Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs improved to 3-1 with their 23-20 win over the New York Jets on Sunday night, but there is no denying that something seems wrong with the offense.
Kelce obviously felt that way, as he was not happy following the victory.
“I spoke with Travis Kelce walking off the field tonight and he was not happy,” said NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic. “He was pissed off about the offense. He mentioned penalties and mistakes were costly and they did nothing to help the defense tonight.”
Russini added that Kelce said “it was a win, but now how they wanted (it).”
Kelce hauled in six receptions for 60 yards in the win.
Kansas City scored 17 points in the first quarter on Sunday evening but was held to just six points for the remainder of the night as the club had to hold on for the tight victory.
Aside from the Chiefs putting up 41 points on the lowly Chicago Bears last weekend, Kansas City’s offense has struggled, scoring a grand total of 60 points in its other three triumphs.
Even Patrick Mahomes has not looked quite right, as the superstar quarterback went just 18-for-30 with a touchdown and two interceptions against the Jets. In addition, he posted a paltry passer rating of 63.6, the lowest mark of his career since entering the NFL in 2017.
Perhaps the most prominent issue currently plaguing Kansas City’s offense is its lackluster receiving corps. That was on full display in Week 4, as the Chiefs’ leading wide receiver was Rashee Rice, who logged just three catches for 32 yards. Next in line was Kadarius Toney, who caught two passes for 22 yards.
Luckily for Kelce and Co., there is still plenty of time to get things right.
The Chiefs will take on the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday.
