Hill needs to be a leader on and off the field
When the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Hill it caused a little bit of controversy. Hill went from a junior college in Kansas to the big time at Oklahoma State. He played well but eventually the university kicked him off the team. He then played at West Alabama.
In 2015, he pleaded guilty to a domestic abuse charge. He paid his fines and completed probation. The case was to be suspended for two years. Last week, a judge saw the work Hill did and dropped the guilty plea and expunged the case.
The Chiefs took a chance by drafting him in the fifth round. Many projected him to go undrafted. Reid figured Hill learned his lesson and would change. It appears he did. He’s had no trouble since coming to the Chiefs.
With HIll doing his best rehabilitating himself off the field, it’s now time for him to take some leadership role on the field and in the locker room. Being someone the team depends on he needs to take a leadership role on the team. I believe with that case over his head he’d have a difficult time to be a vocal leader.
It reminds me of Brandon Marshall when he was with the Chicago Bears. He tried to be a vocal leader. He also had off-field troubles and was also recovering his reputation. While he did that with a lot of the fans, his teammates weren’t having it. Things just kept happening, even if it wasn’t of his making. The other Bears players just didn’t accept Marshall as a leader.
Hill had his troubles early in life. On the other hand, he’s been exemplary since entering the NFL. This case was the only thing on him and now it’s gone. If he steps up and tries to be vocal, I think his teammates will accept him. This is something he needs to do for not only him but also the Kansas City Chiefs.
