Kenny Golladay named a perfect fit for the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have already answered one of their biggest questions going in the offseason. They shipped Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts, opening the door for Jalen Hurts to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2021. Now, they need some wide receiver help and Kenny Golladay could make sense as a target.

Hurts showed some flashes during his rookie season after he took the starting job over from Wentz. He had an impressive victory over the New Orleans Saints and provided a spark to the Eagles’ offense.

Right now, his legs are his best weapon. Hurts ran for 354 yards and three touchdowns on 63 attempts. He has a long way to go in becoming a reliable passer, as he completed only 52 percent of his passes in his rookie season, with six touchdowns and four interceptions.

Part of that is the development Hurts has to make himself. Another reason is that the Eagles lacked consistent weapons to throw to. Travis Fulgham was the leading receiver for Philadelphia in 2020. The second was tight end Dallas Goedert and third was wide receiver Greg Ward, who played quarterback collegiately.

To say the Eagles need to address wide receiver would be an understatement. They have missed on great wide receivers the last two drafts, selecting Jalen Reagor one spot ahead of Justin Jefferson in 2020 and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside over D.K. Metcalf in 2019.

While Philadelphia has had no success evaluating receivers in the draft, maybe they would have better success in free agency, where Kenny Golladay makes for a perfect match.

Golladay was not given the franchise tag by the Detroit Lions, making him a free agent this offseason. There will be plenty of suitors for Golladay, and with good reason.

He led the NFL with 11 touchdown receptions in 2019, which was also the second consecutive season he surpassed 1,000 yards receiving. His 2020 season was ruined because of injury, but he should still cash in as a free agent as he finished the season with a receiving grade of 81.6.

Golladay would give the Eagles a great playmaker on the outside to help Hurts’ development. He would present a massive upgrade at wide receiver, something the team desperately needs.
