Kentucky QB Will Levis Gets Wild NFL Draft Comparison

One of the most intriguing prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft is Kentucky quarterback Will Levis. Levis burst onto the scene in 2021 after transferring out of Penn State, becoming the starting quarterback for the Wildcats.

In his first season as a starter, Will Levis showed off his entire arsenal. He completed 66 percent of his passes for 2,826 yards and 24 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. His rushing ability was on full display as well, as he rushed for 376 yards and nine more scores.

Unfortunately in 2022, Will Levis was unable to replicate that level of success. Injuries played a big part as he ended up missing only one game but battled through shoulder and turf toe injuries. In Kentucky’s bowl game against Iowa, he ended up sitting out as well, as the team lost 21-0 without him.

As he now prepares for the 2023 NFL Draft, a thing that a lot of people do is player comps. It isn’t an exact science as no two players are the same, but you can see similarities between the games of some people.

For Will Levis, some people have compared him to Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills given his size, athleticism and raw talent. However, Lance Zierlein of NFL.com made an interesting comp, saying Will Levis’s NFL comparison is Jay Cutler.

Cutler was a first-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2006 out of Vanderbilt, being selected No. 11 overall. He had a huge arm but sometimes struggled with turnovers, leading the league in interceptions twice. Cutler was a capable runner, averaging 4.4 yards per carry in his career.

The tools are there for Will Levis to succeed as a professional. He has prototypical size and will be entering the NFL with experience running a pro-style offense. A lot of schools run gimmicky offenses, but not Kentucky, where he was under center and working with offensive coordinators that have coached at the next level.

Alas, there are certain things that he has to work on. It will take patience to hone the skill that Will Levis has as he is rough around the edges in some regards. But, any franchise willing to put that time in could end up with a very good starter down the road.
