Kirk Cousins Could Replace Russell Wilson For Broncos

The Denver Broncos have gotten off to a 1-5 start this season and are just 6-17 since acquiring Russell Wilson in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks two offseasons ago. Rumors have begun to rumble that a quarterback change could be nearing. Kirk Cousins might be a name to watch.

To make matters worse, the Broncos handed Wilson a five-year, $245 million extension upon trading for him, meaning he will be under contract through 2028.

But at this point, it’s beginning to look like Wilson will not make it through his deal in Denver.

There has been some speculation that the Broncos could potentially cut Wilson this offseason, which would obviously leave a gaping hole under center.

If Denver does, in fact, part ways with Wilson, who could the club bring in to replace him?

Jack Ramsey of FanSided sees Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins as a possibility.

Cousins is in the final year of his deal, meaning he is slated to hit free agency in the spring. He is now in his sixth season with the Vikings, but Minnesota has failed to make it past the Divisional Round of the playoffs since his arrival.

This year, the Vikings are just 2-4, and a rebuild may be inevitable.

If Minnesota decides to let Cousins walk, the Broncos could potentially be interested. Of course, that’s assuming they remain in win-now mode if they cut ties with Wilson.

Cousins is 35 years old, so whoever signs him would have a relatively short window to win with him. And to be fair to Wilson, Denver’s current problems go far beyond the quarterback position, as the club has been experiencing significant issues on both sides of the ball.

It’s an interesting thought, and Cousins would certainly come much cheaper (and on a shorter deal) than Russell Wilson, but it remains to be seen if the Broncos actually express any interest in Cousins come springtime.
