Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams gave interim head coach Antonio Pierce quite the vote of confidence heading into the team’s season finale.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Adams raved about Pierce and said that the entire team feels very positively about him moving forward.
“That’s my vote, and that’s basically how the whole locker room feels,” Adams said, via the Raiders’ official YouTube account. “With good reason. He’s come in and done a great job. He’s continued to win us over.”
Pierce took over as head coach in an interim role after the Raiders fired Josh McDaniels in late October. However, if Adams’ comments are any indication, Pierce may end up shedding the interim tag this offseason.
“It’s not just the comfortable thing. I think having AP here will be good for this organization,” added Adams. “He kind of embodies what it means to be a Raider. That mentality, that swag and all the things he endorses is the things that I believe in. It’s easy for a guy like me, especially having dealt with him a little bit this year now and gotten to know him and see his evolution in front of the team. All those things, all those different fields of being a head coach. Definitely rooting for him.”
The Raiders have gone 4-4 since Pierce took over, including a 63-point performance in a blowout win over the Los Angeles Chargers a few weeks ago and a stunning Christmas Day upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
Adams is now in his second season in Las Vegas and has expressed his displeasure multiple times throughout the year, so you have to wonder if the Raiders will put a little extra value into his remarks when evaluating Pierce after the season.
The 31-year-old has caught 98 passes for 1,098 yards and seven touchdowns, a significant step down from his debut campaign in Vegas when he hauled in 100 receptions for 1,516 yards and a league-leading 14 receiving scores.
The Raiders initially acquired Adams in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers in March 2022.
Davante Adams has made six consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl and has also earned three straight First-Team All-Pro selections.
We’ll see what Las Vegas decides to do with Antonio Pierce in the coming weeks.
But first, the Raiders will conclude their season when they battle the Denver Broncos this Sunday.
