On every team in sports, some players are unheralded, just going about their business and getting the job done. They fly under the radar and then after the game or at the end of the season, people are surprised by how productive they have been. The Las Vegas Raiders have a player like that in wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.
You would never know that Renfrow is a professional athlete at first glance as he is unassuming, standing 5’10” and weighing 185 pounds. Memes pass around the internet of him standing alongside players such as D.K. Metcalf captioned these two play the same sport and same position.
While there are some wisecracks made at his expense, Renfrow is someone that every team in the NFL would love to have on their roster. He is an excellent slot receiver, coming up with huge catches at crucial times for his team.
He was on the receiving end of a pass from Deshaun Watson during their collegiate days at Clemson that won the National Championship against Alabama. Renfrow is a gamer and a winner. The praise that he received from the Raiders’ general manager was well earned.
Dave Ziegler said that Renfrow is a talented, gritty player. He boasted about Renfrow’s ability to get open and win on critical third-down plays to keep a drive moving.
When Derek Carr needs someone to make a play, Renfrow is normally the person that he goes to. Last season he set career highs across the board as he was pushed into a larger role in the passing offense and made the most of it.
Renfrow caught 103 passes for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, playing in all 17 games last season. He is as steady as they come and this season will be counted on once again.
The Raiders made a splash in the offseason, acquiring Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers. He will take over the No. 1 receiver role in the offense, but Renfrow is still going to be playing a key role.
When defenses shade coverage over to Adams or throw double and triple teams at him, his teammates will have to be able to take advantage. Renfrow is one of the players who will benefit from that and you know you can count on him to get the jobdone.
