It’s looking more and more like the Minnesota Vikings will seriously consider moving quarterback Kirk Cousins ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
The Vikings have gotten off to a dreadful 0-3 start, most recently losing to the Los Angeles Chargers by a score of 28-24 on Sunday.
While many are pitching the New York Jets as the most probably destination for Cousins should Minnesota decide to trade him, Mark Powell of FanSided is suggesting the Las Vegas Raiders as a possibility.
The Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year deal this past offseason, but Garoppolo has labored through the club’s first three games, throwing five touchdowns and a league-worst six interceptions. Additionally, Garoppolo is now in concussion protocol, so his status for Las Vegas’ Week 4 matchup with the Chargers is in question.
In spite of the Vikings’ poor start, Cousins has remained productive, leading the NFL in completions, passing yards and touchdowns. He is completing 69.6 percent of his throws and boasts an impressive passer rating of 108.2.
If Minnesota places him on the trade block, he will surely draw interest from quarterback-hungry teams, and the Raiders make sense as a potential destination.
Las Vegas could send a 2024 second-round draft pick and a third-rounder to the Vikings for the veteran signal-caller, providing Minnesota with some solid draft capital to help in a rebuild.
Meanwhile, the Raiders would land an upgrade under center and would not be responsible for Cousins beyond 2023, as his contract expires after this season.
Las Vegas is 1-2 on the year and is just one game behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West, so adding Cousins into the mix could help propel the club into legitimate playoff contention.
Kirk Cousins is in his sixth season at quarterback for the Vikings.
