Laviska Shenault and the Raiders would make a lot of sense in the NFL Draft

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

When Mayock was asked about addressing wideout through the draft at the scouting combine last week, he shared this revelation:

“The average over the last five years for wide receivers that go in the first three rounds of the draft is about 12. It’s between 12 and 13 a year,” said Mayock. “You can easily make an argument from a grade perspective that there are 20 to 25 of those guys out there this year. Now, that’s just from a grade perspective. I’m not saying 20 to 25 are going. So, there’s depth throughout and there’s quality up top. So, I think from a wideout [perspective] that’s what you’re looking for in any class and on paper today in February that’s what we see.”

In short, Mayock believes his team will be in position to snag a solid receiver prospect in the second or third round. The Raiders currently have three third round picks, so they could certainly use one on a receiver.

It’s unclear where Shenault will fall come draft night, but it’s starting to seem like he could be available on the second or third day. He would be a great pick for Mayock and provide great value in the second or third round.

Shenault has displayed a lot of versatility throughout his collegiate career. Aside from offensive line, he’s spent time at every other offensive position, with his best contributions coming when he’s out wide.

In his best year at Colorado, Shenault recorded 86 catches for 1,011 yards and six touchdowns. Given how versatile he is and the fact that he may fall to the second or third round, Mayock and his front office will surely have Shenault on their radar as the draft creeps closer.
