The Jacksonville Jaguars failed to successfully find a trade suitor for Leonard Fournette and ultimately opted to release him. He will now be looking for his next team ahead of Week 1.
With the Jaguars already have declined the fifth-year option for Fournette earlier in the offseason, the long-term future for the former No. 4 pick was in real jeopardy. Jacksonville managed to save $4 million in salary cap space by making this move.
There has been a real effort from the Jaguars to achieve a clean slate when it comes to the locker room. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the rationale for Jacksonville was to avoid a potential locker room issue since the team is going with an RB-by-committee and Fournette may not receive a satisfactory volume of carries.
During the 2019 season, Fournette provided the Jaguars with 1,152 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns on 265 carries. As a pass-catcher, he was targeted 100 times resulting in 76 receptions and 522 receiving yards. He achieved his best total yards from scrimmage.
With that, let’s take a look at five teams who should make a push for a Leonard Fournette signing before Week 1.
