Los Angeles Chargers: 5 Bold Predictions for the 2018 NFL Season

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Will Have a Playoff Bye

In the AFC it’s almost a foregone conclusion that every year the New England Patriots will be a top two seed. But the team who receives the other playoff bye week changes from year to year. This year the Chargers will be that other team and replace the Steelers who were the two seed last year.

First, the Chargers schedule is much more manageable than the Steelers. The toughest road game for Los Angeles is a matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Although the Rams are a great team, that’s not a true road game. Meantime, Pittsburgh’s toughest road game is against a Jacksonville team that beat them twice last season.

Furthermore, Pittsburgh has to play against the NFC South, which may be the best division in football. I would be amazed if Pittsburgh came away without taking any losses against the NFC South. Los Angeles and Pittsburgh play each other this year in Pittsburgh. Winning that game would give the Chargers a tiebreaker over the Steelers, which will come into play when deciding playoff seeding.
