The 2000 Yard Club
Only seven people in NFL history have done this. After those seven, only one other NFL running back has gained over 1900 yards. Of those elite seven exist five NFL MVP’s, two Super Bowl champions and four Hall of Fame inductees. Is it too early to put him in this elite group? Don’t bet on it. Gurley has hit the thousand yard mark twice in his career, but has never touched the ball more than 279 times for the season.
The aforementioned seven on the all-time yardage list achieved 2000 yards with anywhere between 53 to 113 more touches than Gurley has ever seen in a 16 game season. Depending on whether he’s in mid-season form at that point, those extra touches could translate to upwards of roughly 500 more yards. Those extra yards would at least put him in the topic of conversation for the highly-coveted 2K club.
If you also consider the lack of viable depth behind him, he could see upwards of 400 carries. At five yards-per-carry, attaining 2000 yards is more than within his grasp. After signing Gurley to a massive extension the Rams will no doubt want to protect their investment at all costs. However, they are also going to want him to produce at all costs too. Rest assured when they call his name, he’ll answer. Todd Gurley is a winner and when the game is on the line winners always want the ball.
